We got another incoming call from a customer hoping desperately to resolve basement flooding. She first reached out to her brother, who referred my company. He had found us online, and he also contracted with us for a cellar door replacement.

Bilco took a bold step forward about 10 years ago when they decided to offer their B and C models in powder-coated paint. Yes, it’s far better than the pre-primed red, but it has limitations.

Many times a customer needs to change out an old Bilco door to resolve basement flooding, not because it’s rusted, but because it’s sitting too low. I get several of these jobs every year. Most of the incoming calls come within 3 weeks of a big storm. In the summer of 2022, a customer in Bergenfield, New Jersey found us online, and complained that water was just pouring down the basement steps every time there was an intense rainfall. Several times a year their basement was getting flooded.

We got an emergency call from a customer in the Township of Washington that had the glass smashed on a patio door. The double-pane of the fixed panel were smashed, both pieces of glass. This means there was nothing to secure the house except a piece of cardboard that the customer put there. It was cold too, frosty every morning. The broken glass was making the whole house cold inside.

I am pleased to give this evaluation of the regrading and restoration work at the Teaneck Creek Conservancy. Overall, the project gets a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. I organized the Borg’s Woods Preservation Coalition from 1986 to 1995, and we successfully campaigned for the preservation of Borg’s Woods in Hackensack. There is now a serious need to do some regrading and flood control along Coles Brook in Borg’s Woods, so I have been closely monitoring the work at the Teaneck Creek Conservancy.
